A Goat-Herder's Bet on the Future

~1991 · The Vision

The Orchard Seen on a Mountain Trail

Thirty-five years ago, our father ran a thriving business supplying mountain goats to the Indian Army from Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh — a herd of over 500 goats. On those same Himalayan trails, he passed through apple orchards and felt something stir.

"The next generation won't herd goats. Let's give them roots instead — roots that bear fruit for decades."

The Decision

₹1 Lakh. Two Plots. One Leap of Faith.

When Himachali families were quietly buying land in Tons Valley, our family moved fast. With ₹1,00,000, they purchased two plots in Kotgaon and planted apple saplings by hand. No machinery. No guides. Just belief. Those trees are 30 years old today.

The Long Wait

Two Generations of Patient Farming

The first and second generation tended the orchard through harsh winters and uncertain harvests — without market access, without cold storage, without the knowledge the crop deserved. The fruit came, but never its full value.

2024 · The Third Generation

Dada's Dream Gets Its Due

We are Dev and Remona Rana — and we refuse to let this legacy remain half-finished. Together, we founded Tons Valley Agro Pvt. Ltd., working alongside 500+ apple farmers to build fair markets, better prices, and a future rooted in Himalayan soil.

A mountain entrepreneur who grew up between goat trails and apple blossoms. Dev bridges Himalayan agriculture with the modern world — proving that a farmer's son can also be a founder.

She left a prestigious and secure teaching career at DPS to honour a family legacy. Her belief: "Some classrooms have no walls — they have mountains, orchards, and seasons."

Why Himalayan Estate?

In a world where children believe apples come from supermarkets, we want a child to stand under their own tree, reach up, and pluck a red apple from a branch their family adopted.

एक बकरीपालक का भविष्य पर दाँव

~1991 · सपने की शुरुआत

पहाड़ी रास्ते पर दिखा एक बाग़

आज से 35 साल पहले, हमारे पिताजी हिमाचल प्रदेश के किन्नौर से Indian Army को पहाड़ी बकरे supply करते थे — उनके पास 500 से ज़्यादा बकरे थे। उन्हीं पहाड़ी रास्तों पर उन्होंने सेब के बाग़ देखे और मन में कुछ जाग उठा।

"अगली पीढ़ी बकरी नहीं चराएगी — उन्हें एक ज़मीन चाहिए, एक जड़ चाहिए, जो दशकों तक फल दे।"

वो एक फ़ैसला

₹1 लाख। दो ज़मीनें। एक बड़ा दाँव।

जब हिमाचली परिवार टौंस वैली में चुपचाप ज़मीन ख़रीद रहे थे, हमारे परिवार ने देर नहीं की। ₹1,00,000 में कोटगाँव में दो जगह ज़मीन ख़रीदी और अपने हाथों से सेब के पौधे लगाए। कोई मशीन नहीं, कोई गाइड नहीं — बस यकीन। वो पेड़ आज 30 साल के हो गए हैं।

लंबा इंतज़ार

दो पीढ़ियों की मेहनत और सब्र

पहली और दूसरी पीढ़ी ने कड़ी सर्दियों और अनिश्चित मौसम में बाग़ को सँभाला — बाज़ार की जानकारी के बिना, cold storage के बिना। फल मिला, लेकिन उतनी value नहीं मिली जितनी मिलनी चाहिए थी।

2024 · तीसरी पीढ़ी

दादा का सपना अधूरा नहीं रहेगा

हम देव और रेमोना राणा हैं — और हम यह विरासत अधूरी नहीं छोड़ेंगे। हमने Tons Valley Agro Pvt. Ltd. की नींव रखी — 500 से ज़्यादा सेब किसानों के साथ मिलकर उनके सेब को सही बाज़ार और सही मूल्य दिलाने के लिए।

DPS में HOD की established, prestigious job छोड़कर एक पारिवारिक सपने को पूरा करने निकलीं। उनका विश्वास: "कुछ classrooms की दीवारें नहीं होतीं — वहाँ पहाड़, बाग़ और मौसम होते हैं।"

Himalayan Estate — क्यों?

आज के बच्चे सोचते हैं सेब supermarket में उगता है। हम चाहते हैं कि एक बच्चा अपने ख़ुद के पेड़ के नीचे खड़ा हो, हाथ उठाए, और एक लाल सेब तोड़े — और उसके माँ-बाप गर्व से देखें।

हम चाहते हैं कि दिल्ली में बैठी एक family monthly videos में देखे — एक फूल से सेब बनता हुआ। और जब वो पहला box घर आए और पूरी family मिलकर उसे खोले, तब जो अहसास होगा:
